BARTOLOMEO See also:AMMANATI (1511-1592) , Florentine architect and sculptor . He studied under See also:Bandinelli and Jacopo See also:Sansovino, and closely imitated the See also:style of See also:Michelangelo . He was more distinguished in See also:architecture than in See also:sculpture . He de-signed many buildings in See also:Rome, See also:Lucca and See also:Florence, an addition to the Pitti See also:Palace in the last-named See also:city being one of his most celebrated See also:works . He was also employed in 1569 to build the beautiful See also:bridge over the See also:Arno, known as See also:Ponte della Trinitaone of his celebrated works . The three See also:arches are elliptic, and though very See also:light and elegant, have resisted the fury of the See also:river, which has swept away several other See also:bridges at different times . Another of his most important works was the See also:fountain for the Piazza della Signoria . In 1550 See also:Ammanati married Laura Battiferri, an elegant poet and an accomplished woman . |
