BARNIM I  . (c . 1209-1278), called the See also:Good, was the son of Bogislaus II., See also:duke of See also:Pomerania-See also:Stettin, and succeeded to this duchy on his See also:father's See also:death in 1220 . After he became of See also:age he was engaged in a See also:long struggle with See also:external enemies, and in 1250 was compelled to recognize the supremacy of the See also:margrave of See also:Brandenburg . Having in 1264 See also:united the whole of Pomerania under his See also:rule, See also:Barnim devoted his energies to improving its See also:internal See also:condition . He introduced See also:German settlers and customs into the duchy, founded many towns, and was extremely generous towards ecclesiastical See also:foundations . He died on the 13th or 14th of See also:November 1278 .
