He then spent three years in See also:Paris, studying under several masters, and on his return to his native See also:country received further training from Hieronymus See also:Francken . In 1591 he went to See also:Amsterdam, and four years later settled finally at Utrecht, where he became See also:dean of the Gild of St See also:Luke . He excelled more as a colourist than as a draughtsman, was extremely productive, and painted and etched See also:historical and allegorical pictures, landscapes, still-See also:life, See also:animal pictures and See also:flower pieces . Among his pupils are his four sons, Hendrick, See also:Frederick, Cornelis and Adriaan (all of whom achieved consider-able reputation as painters or engravers), the two Honthorsts and See also:Jacob G .
