GUSTAVUS See also:BRANDER (1720-1787) , See also:English naturalist, who came of a See also:Swedish See also:family, was See also:born in See also:London in 1720, and was brought up as a See also:merchant, in which capacity he achieved success and became a director of the See also:Bank of See also:England . His leisure See also:time was occupied in scientific pursuits, and at his See also:country See also:residence at See also:Christchurch in See also:Hampshire he became interested in the fossils so abundant in the See also:clays of Hordwell and See also:Barton . A set of these was presented by him to the See also:British Museum, and they were described by D . C . Solander in the beautifully illustrated See also:work entitled Fossilia Hantoniensia collecta, et in Musaeo Britannico deposits a Gustavo See also:Brander (London, 1766) . Brander was elected F.R.S. in 1754, and he was also a trustee of the British Museum . He died on the 21st of See also:January 1787 . |
