BROGGER (1851— )  , See also:Norwegian geologist, was See also:born in See also:Christiania on the loth of See also:November 1851, and educated in that See also:city . In 1876 he was appointed See also:curator of the See also:geological museum in his native city, and assistant on the Geological Survey . He was See also:professor of See also:mineralogy and See also:geology from 1881 to 18go in the university of See also:Stockholm, and from 1890 in the university of Christiania . He also became See also:rector and See also:president of the See also:senate of the royal university of Christiania . His observations on the igneous rocks of See also:south See also:Tirol compared with those of Christiania afford much See also:information oa the relations of the granitic and basic rocks . The subject of the differentiation of See also:rock-types in the See also:process of solidification as plutonic or volcanic rocks from a particular magma received much See also:attention from him . He dealt also with the Palaeozoic rocks of See also:Norway, and with the See also:late glacial and See also:post-glacial changes of level in the Christiania region . The honorary degree of Ph.D. was conferred upon him by the university of See also:Heidelberg and that of LL.D. by the university of See also:Glasgow . The See also:Murchison See also:medal of the Geological Society of See also:London was awarded to him in 1891 .
