CAKCHIQUEL, a tribe of Central American Indians of Mayan stock, inhabiting parts of Guatemala. Their name is said to be that of a native tree. At the conquest they were found to be in a much civilized condition. See D. G. Brinton, Annals of the Cakchiquels. ' He was christened Giacomo, but afterwards took the name of Tommaso in honour of Thomas Aquinas. 11
