CAMUS (1740-1804)  , See also:French revolutionist, was a successful See also:advocate before the Revolution . In 1789 he was elected by the third See also:estate of See also:Paris to the states See also:general, and attracted See also:attention by his speeches against social inequalities . Elected to the See also:National See also:Convention by the See also:department of Haute-See also:Loire, he was named member of the See also:committee of general safety, and then sent as one of the commissioners charged with the surveillance of General C . F . See also:Dumouriez . Delivered with his colleagues to the Austrians on the 3rd of See also:April 1793, he was exchanged for the daughter of See also:Louis XVI. in See also:November 1795 . He played an inconspicuous role in the See also:council of the Five See also:Hundred . On the 14th of See also:August 1789 the Constituent See also:Assembly made See also:Camus its archivist, and in that capacity he organized the national archives, classified the papers of the different assemblies of the Revolution and See also:drew up See also:analytical tables of the procesverhaux . He was restored to the See also:office in 1796 and became absorbed in See also:literary See also:work . He remained an austere republican, refusing to take See also:part in the See also:Napoleonic regime .
