The first Earl of Carlisle was Andrew Harclay, who died and was disinherited in 1323, after he made a peace pact with Bruce of Scotland, which was seen as treason by Edward 2nd. He had previously enjoyed great favour and had fought against the Scots under both Edward 1st and Edward 2nd. His lands were siezed by the king, his knighthood removed and he was hanged, drawn and quartered and his lands given to Antony de Lucy. Therefore the article about the Earls of Carlisle should be referring to the second and third generations of that title, not the first and second.
