Vittorino Da Feltre Biography (c.1378–1446) (originally Vittorino dei Ramboldini)
Educationist, born at Feltre, NE Italy. He studied and taught at Padua, and in 1423 was summoned to Mantua as tutor to the children of the Marchese Gonzaga. There he founded a school for both rich and poor children (1425), in which he devised new methods of instruction, introducing a wide curriculum, and integrating the development of mind and body through the study of the Classics and Christianity.
