Kip(choge) Keino Biography (1940– )
Athlete, born in Kipsamo, Kenya. Concentrating on middle-distance events, his most effective range lay between 1500 m and 5000 m. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics he won the 1500 m, and at Munich in 1972 he won the gold medal for the 3000 steeplechase. He won Commonwealth Games titles at the mile and three miles in 1966 and at 1500 m in 1970. In 1965 he established new world records for the 3000 m and 5000 m. After his retirement from athletics he began a crusade to adopt orphaned and abandoned children in Kenya.
