Longest river in Poland; rises in the Carpathians in SW Poland and flows NE, N, and NW for 1047 km/651 mi to meet the Baltic Sea at Gdańsk; navigable for 941 km/585 mi; linked by canal to E and W Europe; dammed at Goczałkowice.
