Voiceprint
A visual representation of the features of a person's voice, as analysed using acoustic techniques (usually the sound spectrograph). Voiceprinting was devised in the 1960s, on analogy with fingerprinting, and the claim was made that a voiceprint is unique to the individual. Although introduced as evidence in some court cases (chiefly in the USA), the technique has remained controversial, but more sophisticated approaches are now being developed following electronic and computational advances.
