Client/server Architecture
A term used in computing to describe the situation today where computers, instead of doing one task centrally as they used to do, connect with each other to carry out a task. For example, a computer program wishing to compute an employee's pay (the client) would ask the central personnel computer (the server) for the employee's details in order to work out how much should be paid.
