Kite (recreation)

Various kite designs on show.
A frame covered with a light fabric or paper, flown on a long string. It was first documented in China (AD 549) in relation to military communications. Kites spread to Europe via the Arabs, and were first used in Italy in 1589. They continue to be popular as a leisure activity, and have practical applications in meteorology and surveying.
