Kit-Cat Club
A political and literary club that flourished in London during 1700–20. Its membership comprised leading Whig politicians, writers, and painters, and included Robert Walpole, Joseph Addison, William Congreve, Richard Steele, John Vanbrugh, and artist Godfrey Kneller - who painted portraits of the members.
