FAIZABAD , a See also:town of See also:Afghanistan, See also:capital of the See also:province of See also:Badakshan, situated on the Kokcha See also:river . In 1821 it was destroyed by See also:Murad Beg of See also:Kunduz, and the inhabitants removed to Kunduz . But since Badakshan was annexed by Abdur Rahman, the town has recovered its former importance, and is now a considerable See also:place of See also:trade . It is the See also:chief See also:cantonment for eastern Afghanistan and the Pamir region, and is protected by a fort built in 1904 . |
