At St Vincent he was flag-captain to the second in command, and in the following See also:year was sent out in command of the " See also:Goliath " (74), to reinforce See also:Nelson's See also:fleet in the Mediterranean . The part played by the " Goliath " in the See also:battle of the See also:Nile was brilliant . She led the squadron See also:round the See also:French See also:van, and this manoeuvre contributed not a little to the result of the See also:day . Whether this was done by Foley's own initiative, or intended by Nelson, has been a See also:matter of controversy (see See also:Journal of the Royal See also:United Service Institution, 1885, p . 916) . His next important service was with Nelson in the Baltic . The " See also:Elephant " carried Nelson's flag at the battle of See also:Copenhagen, and her captain acted as his See also:chief-of-See also:staff .
