After living some See also:time in See also:London, he went to See also:Paris, where he started in 1800 an See also:English library, and in 18o8 a monthly publication, the Repertory of English Literature . In 1814 he began to publish, in Paris, See also:Galignani's Messenger, a daily See also:paper printed in English . At his See also:death in 1821 the paper was carried on by his two sons, See also:Jean-See also:Antoine (1796-1873) and See also:Guillaume (1798-1882) . Under their management it enjoyed a high reputation . Its policy was to promote See also:good feeling between See also:England and See also:France . The See also:brothers established and endowed hospitals at See also:Corbeil and at Neuillysur-See also:Seine . In recognition of their generosity the See also:city of Corbeil erected a See also:monument in their See also:honour . In 1884 the Galignani See also:family disposed of their See also:interest in Galignani's Messenger, and from that date until 1904, when it was discontinued, the paper appeared under the See also:title of the Daily Messenger . |
