When Henry III. died in See also:November 1272 the archbishopric of Canter-See also:bury was vacant, and consequently the great See also:seal was delivered to the archbishop of York, who was the See also:chief of the three regents who successfully governed the See also:kingdom until the return of See also:Edward I. in August 1274 . Having again acted in this capacity during the See also:king's See also:absence in 1275, Giffard died in See also:April 1279, and was buried in his See also:cathedral .
