His writings fill many pages of the publications of the Boston Society of Natural See also:History (see vol. xi. p . 197 for a See also:list) and other See also:periodicals . He published with L . See also:Agassiz the Principles of See also:Zoology (2nd ed . 1851); he edited the Terrestrial and See also:Air-breathing Mollusks (x851-1855) of See also:Amos See also:Binney (1803-1847); he translated See also:Lamarck's Genera of Shells . The two most important monuments to his scientific See also:work, however, are See also:Mollusca and Shells (vol. xii., 1852) of the See also:United States exploring expedition (1838-1842) under See also:Lieutenant CharlesWilkes(1833), published by the See also:government, and the See also:Report on the Invertebrata published by See also:order of the legislature of Massachusetts in 1841 . A second edition of the latter work was authorized in 1865,.and published in 187o after the author's See also:death, which took See also:place at Boston on the 15th of See also:September 1866 .
