Grodno (Hrodna) is now gooverned by Belorus. even thugh it plyed an important role in Polish history. The town is situated on the banks of the river Niemen. and the casle of king Stephan Batory is on a steep hill above the river. the populaion has grown to over 400000, but there are only about 300 Jews.
