GROUP V. Carbonates.—There is but one really important member of this group, namely, the old and typical variety of white lead (2PbCO3, PbH2O2). Like green verditer (2CuCO3. CuH2O2), and blue verditer (CuCO3• CuH2O2), it is a basic carbonate. Purified chalk or whitening (CaCO3) belongs here also.
