.
He came to an open rupture with Licinius in 313, sustained a crushing defeat in the neighbourhood of See also: Heraclea Pontica on the 3oth of See also: April, and fled, first to See also: Nicomedia and afterwards to See also: Tarsus, where he died in See also: August following
.
His death was variously ascribed " to despair, to See also: poison, and to the divine See also: justice." Maximinus has a See also: bad name in Christian See also: annals, as having renewed persecution after the publication of the toleration edict of Galerius, but it is probable that he has been judged too harshly
