He held from See also:time to time a number of livings, and in 1771 was made See also:bishop of See also:Chester and See also:tutor to See also:George See also:prince of See also:Wales . In 1777 he became archbishop of York, and also See also:lord high See also:almoner and privy councillor . He was for some time a See also:close friend of See also:Edmund See also:Burke, but his strong championship of See also:Warren See also:Hastings caused a See also:breach . He was accused by Lord See also:Chatham of See also:preaching pernicious doctrines, and was a victim of the See also:Gordon riots in 1780 . He died in 1807 .
