He studied See also:painting at the Munich See also:Academy under See also:Piloty, and soon discovered that the true expression of his See also:genius was in the See also:field of See also:caricature and comic drawings . He joined the See also:staff of the Fliegende Bldtter, to which he became a See also:constant contributor . Unlike See also:Busch, whose aim was the utmost simplicity of See also:line and whose drawings See also:form a See also:running commentary to the See also:legend, See also:Oberlander's See also:work is essentially pictorial, and expressive in itself, without the extraneous aid of the written line . Among his best drawings are his parodies on the See also:style of well-known painters, such as the " See also:Variations on the Kissing Theme." His See also:works have been collected in the Oberldnder-See also:Album, published by Braun and See also:Schneider in Munich .
