OCTOROON, or OCTAROON (from See also:Lat. octo, eight, formed on the example of See also:quadroon)  , the offspring of a See also:quadroon and a See also:white; a See also:person having one-eighth See also:negro See also:blood . In rare instances such persons are called tercerons, as being third in descent from a negro ancestor . Occasionally persons are called octoroons when the non-white See also:element is not negro but some other coloured blood .
