term now chiefly used of See also:money and always in a derogatory sense . The word originally meant See also:plunder, pillage (O . Fr. pelfre, probably from See also:Lat. pilare, to deprive of See also:hair, pilus), and this significance is still kept in the related word " pilfer," to make See also:petty thefts .
