PHILLAUR, a town of British India, in Jullundur district, Punjab, on the north bank of the river Sutlej, 8 m. N. of Ludhiana. Pop. (1901), 6986. Founded by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan, it was long of importance as commanding the crossing of the Sutlej. At the Mutiny in 1857 the fort contained the siege train, which was sent safely to Delhi; but the sepoy regiment in the cantonment shortly afterwards mutinied and escaped. The fort is now occupied by the police training school and the central bureau of the criminal identification department.

Yes, I totally agree it is a beautiful little town. There use to be a school there called hooshan da school did anyone attend this school in the 60s? Is this school still there? There was also a factory famous for making a machine called Master Toka for the agricultural areas. Does anyone remember the family name of the owners? I live in Amritsar now but would like to visit this place again because I have such beautiful memories of this place. There used to be a huge house somewhere near the bazar with lots of interesting stories about it.
Landra Toka on Nurmahal Road - they manufactured chaff cutters, threshing machines etc. Family originally based in Landra - hence the name. That whole stretch of Road was an 'integrated site' - large residence then businessmen' quarters then gardens then dairy then workers quarters then factory proper
