In 1288, during a time of See also:great See also:con-See also:fusion, the archbishop acted as See also:governor of Ireland . In 1290 he resigned and returned to England . Sandford served Edward I. in the great See also:case over the succession to the Scottish See also:throne in 1292 and also as an See also:envoy to the See also:German See also:king, Adolph of See also:Nassau, and the princes of the See also:Empire . On his return from See also:Germany he died at See also:Yarmouth on the and of See also:October 1294 . Sandford's See also:elder brother, Fulk (d . 1271), was also archbishop of Dublin .

He is called Fulk de Sandford and also Fulk Basset owing to his relationship to the Bassets . Having been See also:

He took some slight See also:part in the See also:government of Ireland under Henry III. and died at Finglas on the 4th of May 1271 .
