His numerous writings were much esteemed, especially by the evangelical party, to which he belonged; the best known are his See also:Treatise on the Records of Creation and the Moral Attributes of the Creator (See also:London, 1816) and The See also:Evidence of See also:Christianity derived from its Nature and Reception (London, 1821) . In 1848 he was consecrated archbishop of See also:Canterbury, in which capacity he dealt impartially with the different See also:church parties . In the well-known "Gorham See also:case "1 he came into 1 See also:George See also:Cornelius Gorham (1787-1857) was refused institution by Bishop See also:Phillpotts because of his Calvinistic views on baptismal regeneration . The See also:court of See also:arches upheld the bishop, but its decision was reversed by the privy See also:council.conflict with Bishop See also:Henry Phillpotts of See also:Exeter (1778-1869), who accused him of supporting See also:heresy and refused to communicate with him . He supported the See also:Divorce See also:Bill in See also:parliament, but opposed the Deceased Wife's See also:Sister Bill and the bill 'for removing Jewish disabilities .
