town of the Abruzzi, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Aquila, 56 m. by See also:rail E.N.E. of See also:Rome, and to m . W. of See also:Avezzano . Pop . (1901) 4517 (town); 9061 (See also:commune) . It lies 2428 ft. above See also:sea-level, at the mouth of the deep See also:ravine of the Imele . It contains several old churches, notably S . See also:Francesco, with a See also:fine See also:rose window in the See also:facade, and See also:medieval houses . The See also:palace, built at the end of the 14th See also:century by the See also:Orsini, is fine . The See also:place was given to the See also:Colonna See also:family in 1526 . At the end of 1268 a See also:battle took place here between See also:Conradin of See also:Hohenstaufen and See also:Charles of See also:Anjou, which resulted in the defeat of Conradin and his See also:execution .
