TAMBOV  , a See also:

town of See also:Russia, See also:capital of the See also:government of the same name, 300 m. by See also:rail S.E. from See also:Moscow, on the Tsna See also:river, and on the railway to See also:Saratov . Pop . (1884) 34,000; (1900) 49,208 . The town is almost entirely built of See also:wood, with broad unpaved streets, lined with See also:low houses surrounded by gardens; but it is an archiepiscopal see of the Orthodox See also:Greek See also:Church . Woollens, See also:tobacco, oil and various other commodities are manufactured . The See also:trade in See also:grain, and in See also:cattle See also:purchased in the See also:south and sent to Moscow, is far less important than that of See also:Morshansk and See also:Kozlov .
