TANSA, a small river in Salsett island, in the Thana district of Bombay, which provides the city of Bombay with its water-supply. It is embanked by one of the largest masonry dams in the world, built in 1892. The embankment is nearly 2 M. long, 118 ft. high, and Ito ft. thick at the base.
