TEGGIANO (anc. Tegianum, formerly called See also:Diana)  , a See also:town in See also:Campania, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Salerno, 45 M . S.E. of that town . Pop . (1901) 5095 . It is situated 2090 ft. above See also:sea-level on an isolated See also:eminence above the upper See also:part of the valley of the See also:Negro (anc . See also:Tanager), to which it gives the name of Val di Diano . It represents the See also:ancient Tegianum a municipal town of Lucania, made into a See also:colony by See also:Nero, of which the ruins can be traced at the See also:foot of the See also:hill, with an ancient See also:Roman See also:bridge . An Oscan sepulchral inscription in See also:Greek letters has been found here (cf . W . See also:Corssen in See also:Ephemeris Epigrafica, ii . 153) . It possesses a See also:castle, several churches of some See also:interest, and three conventual buildings .
