WAZIR, or VIZIER (Arabic wazir), a minister, usually the principal minister under a Mahommedan ruler. In India the nawab of Oudh was long known as the nawab wazir, the title of minister to the Mogul emperor having become hereditary in the family.

Wazir is also a tribe of pathans living on both sides of the Daverend Line, but densly populated in Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan (FATA).
