WENDS , the name applied by the Germans to the Slays (q.v.) wherever they came in contact with them . It is now used for the See also:

SLOVENES [Slovenci, Ger. Winden, to be distinguished from the Slovaks (q.v.) and from the Slovinci (see KASHUBES) west of Danzig]
