He was deprived of his earldom, became a crusader and died a See also:monk . From 1397 to 1403 the earldom was held by See also:Sir See also:Thomas See also:Percy (c . 1343–1403), a See also:brother of See also:Henry Percy, 1st earl of See also:Northumberland . Percy served with distinction in France during the reign of See also:Edward III.; he also held an See also:official position on the Scottish See also:borders, and under See also:Richard II. he was the See also:admiral of a See also:fleet . He deserted Richard II. in 1399, and was employed and trusted by Henry IV., but in 1403 he joined the other Percies in their revolt; he was taken prisoner at See also:Shrewsbury, and subsequently beheaded, the earldom becoming See also:extinct . The See also:title of earl of Worcester was revived in 1421 in favour of Richard See also:Beauchamp, See also:Lord See also:Abergavenny, but lapsed on his See also:death in 1422 . The next earl was See also:John Tiptoft, or Tibetot, a noted Yorkist See also:leader during the See also:wars of the See also:Roses, who was executed in 1470 (see below) . On the death of his son, Edward, in 1485 the earldom reverted to the See also:crown . In See also:February 1514 the earldom was bestowed by Henry VIII.on See also:CHARLES See also:SOMERSET (c .

Having married See also:Elizabeth, daughter of See also:William See also:Herbert, earl of See also:Huntingdon, he was styled See also:Baron Herbert in right of his wife, and in 1506 he was created Baron Herbert of Ragland, See also:Chepstow and See also:Gower . He was See also:chamberlain of the See also:household to Henry VIII . His son Henry, 2nd earl (c . 1495–1548), obtained Tintern See also:Abbey after the See also:dissolution of the monasteries . The title descended in See also:direct See also:line to Henry, the 5th earl (1577–1646), who advanced large sums of See also:money to Charles I. at the outbreak of the See also:Great See also:Rebellion, and was created See also:marquess of Worcester in 1643 .
