Plaza Hotel Vegas - How to Enjoy the Freemont Experience at the Plaza Hotel in Vegas

union street player’s club

The Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas sits in a prime spot at #1 Main Street endcapping the famous canopied Freemont Street. Originally known as the Union Plaza when it opened in 1971, it was once the largest casino in Vegas. Due to owner Jacki Gaughan, the Plaza was also called Jacki Gaughan’s Union Plaza. The Union reference came from the hotel being built where the Union Pacific Railroad Station was once located. The Plaza Hotel changed hands in 2004 but still maintains a 70’s feel. New owner Barrick Gaming is in the process of revamping the Plaza.

The Plaza Hotel offers a budget-friendly Italian restuarant called Lombardi’s, the Aqua Lounge and an impressive show called, “The Rat Pack is Back”. It’s the only downtown casino with a bingo room with several sessions daily. Other amenities include free parking for hotel guests, a player’s club, a buffet for only $7.77, a few gift shops and fast food places and internet stations.

Known for its budget room rates, prices are often discounted for regular customers. Players can get a reduced room rate or even a room comp at the Plaza Hotel based on rate of play. Make sure to get a free player’s club card and ask a Player’s Club host about the possibility of a special rate.

Just stroll out under the multi-lit sparkling entrance to the Plaza to begin the Freemont Street experience. An impressive light show plays every hour. Several vendors and free entertainment fill up the pedestrian mall area. From traditional Vegas venues to a mall linked with skywalks, staying downtown is a unique Las Vegas experience. It all starts at the Plaza Hotel.
