Lauderdale By The Sea Hotels - Hotel Choices at Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida

lauderdale by the sea hotel

Located near the city of Fort Lauderdale, the town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea was incorporated in 1927, then lost its charter in 1933. It was re-incorporated fourteen years later. This seaside town is on the eastern edge of Broward county on a long narrow island separated from Fort Lauderdale by the intracoastal waterway.

In 1960 the population was 1300 people, forty years later it had doubled. In 2000 it annexed the bordering town of Terra Mar to the north, which borders the city of Pompano Beach. It’s a long time favorite of winter residents and visitors from North America and Europe.

The city has many small hotels and motels and a long wooden pier at the end of Commercial Boulevard. In 2000 it annexed the bordering town of Terra Mar. Unlike many Florida coastal communities which allowed high-rise condominiums along the shore, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea enacted a limit one building height, which is still in effect today, which has preserved it’s small seaside village atmosphere. All hotels along the shore are small two story structures, many of which are family owned.
