Yosemite National Park Hotel - Yosemite National Park Hotel Options

valley ahwahnee cabins offer

Yosemite Valley, the core of the park, is home to three unique hotels—the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls and Curry Village. All have completely different feels and pricing structures but all share one key attribute in that they are located in what could very well be the most beautiful place on Earth. All also offer modern comfort and convenience.

Although Curry Village is famous for its tent cabins, it also offers a number of rooms which offer a less rustic experience. A total of 75 units at the compound offer both wood construction and private bathrooms, with a vast majority of them being located in cabins. Please note that most of the cabin rooms will typically not be individual cabins, but, instead, halves of a duplex. These rooms are relatively small and somewhat spare with semi-rustic style decorations. Although many travelers may be concerned by the lack of both telephones and televisions in the room, the diversions of Yosemite Valley will more than make up for their absence. Because Curry Village is so well-known for the tent cabins that make up over eighty-two percent of the property, many people are unaware of these more traditional rooms, making them some of the last to fill in the park.

The Yosemite Lodge at the Falls is the park’s traditional motel-style accommodation. Rooms are furnished with more flair than those at Curry Village, and the location is extremely close to Yosemite Falls. It offers outside corridors, a year-round sit-down restaurant, and rooms furnished with both telephones and televisions. With 249 rooms on the property, it can have a motel feel, as opposed to the unique feels of the other two Valley properties. Large families will appreciate the Family Rooms which offer three beds and a sofa sleeper as well as a dining table, although few are available.

Finally, Yosemite features the grande dame of National Park accommodations—the Ahwahnee. A AAA Four Diamond hotel, it offers luxury accommodations in a historical building in the splendor of Yosemite Valley. Built in the late 1920’s, the Ahwahnee has a natural appearance which echoes the surrounding forest and mountains and also features Native American motifs inspired by the tribes of the region. Its appearance is so iconic that it has served as an inspiration for hotels ranging from the fictional Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Shining” to the Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World in Orlando. With 123 rooms, including 99 at the main property, it maintains an exclusive small hotel feel. For those guests who choose not to stay at the Ahwahnee due to the high room rates, a meal at the dining room can be an excellent way to experience the hotel’s grandeur. The buffet Sunday brunch is an especially pleasant way to spend a few hours at the Ahwahnee, even if it does not fully highlight the restaurant’s culinary excellence.

Although there are a number of hotels located outside of the park, many of which are clustered around the southern entrance, staying in Yosemite Valley is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Because of the Valley’s popularity, though, advance reservations are crucial.
