Orange Beach Hotel - A Unique, Affordable Orange Beach Hotel

house pool standard island

A semi-circular ten-story structure nestled among palm trees in Orange Beach, Alabama, The Island House Hotel is arguably the most visually intriguing piece of architecture on Perdido Beach Boulevard. The front exterior seems to be constructed of variously sized giant concrete columns, causing a resemblance to a pipe organ. Visible from the front parking lot, the elevator has one glass wall, allowing a view outside for riders and a glimpse of the elevator interior for onlookers. The back of the hotel, which faces the sea, is symmetrically concave. Every room in this Orange Beach hotel has a balcony with a view of the Gulf of Mexico. The pool out back, the kiddie pool, and the large gazebo where bands entertain on the weekends are surrounded by large palms and tropical flowers. The Sand Bar Lounge on the first floor offers drinks by the pool, but few visitors would guess that it closes at 4 p.m.

At this hotel, one is steps away from the clearest water Orange Beach has to offer. The last hotel on Perdido Beach Boulevard before reaching Perdido Pass Bridge, Island House is approximately a five minute drive from Florida. The water at Orange Beach resembles the blue water of Florida and is clear in comparison to that of its western neighbor, Gulfshores, which is more of a murky gray.

Island House Hotel offers some of the most affordable rates on the shoreline-facing strip. Rooms are clean and stocked with amenities, which are refreshed daily. Summer rates range from $179 for standard rooms to $325 for a corner penthouse (which has four rooms). All rooms contain safes, irons/ironing boards, and coffee makers. Both black and hazelnut coffee packets are stacked in a basket with creamer, sugar, and straws. Standard rooms are great quality for the price, but they do not have mini-refrigerators or microwaves. However, with a cooler full of groceries, one could easily enjoy a relaxing meal out on the balcony in the Gulf breeze. Two plastic white chairs and a small table are provided on standard room balconies.

During the summer season (May 16 through August 15), there is a minimum stay of two nights, unless the visit is during a holiday, in which case the minimum is three to four nights. The lodging tax is 11%. Reservations may be made online, but often glitches on the website cause a message to appear recommending contact by telephone.
