Fort Worth, exhibiting a culture and character all its own, serves as a highly sought after vacation destination. In fact, over 5 million visitors flock to Fort Worth each year.

So, what do these tourists see and do during their Fort Worth vacation? Depending on the demographics of the travelers (single tourist, family, etc.), they are likely to gravitate to different Fort Worth attractions.

Nearly every Fort Worth vacation includes a stop at the stockyards. This Fort Worth landmark hosts the only twice-daily cattle drive in the world. Visitors can view this cattle drive at both 11:30 am and 4:00 pm daily. Of course, after watching the cattle drive, many Fort Worth vacationers further embrace the spirit of the West by shopping for some handcrafted boots or dancing the night away at Billy Bob’s Texas, which bills itself as the world’s largest honky tonk.

For even more Western adventure, a Fort Worth vacationer should visit the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame or the Stockyards Museum. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only museum in existence that is devoted to honoring cowgirls. The Museum documents the history of the cowgirls through photographs, artifacts, and rotating art exhibits. The Stockyards Museum tells the history of the Stockyards from its location in the historic 1903 Livestock Exchange building.

On the other end of the spectrum, Fort Worth is a major destination for art lovers. Every Fort Worth vacation should include a stop at one or more of the city’s fine museums. The city’s art museums include the Kimbell Art Museum, The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Sid Richardson Museum, and the Amon Carter Museum. The Kimbell has the notable distinction of housing Michelangelo’s first known painting.

Fans of the performing arts will definitely want to spend part of their Fort Worth vacation taking in a show at Bass Performance Hall. The beautiful Hall is styled after a classic European Opera House, and it contains a Great Dome that is 80 feet in diameter. Bass Performance Hall hosts the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Texas Ballet Theater, the Fort Worth Opera, and many other special performances.

Families will want to spend at least part of their Fort Worth vacation checking out attractions such as the Fort Worth Zoo and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. The Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest zoo in Texas, has been ranked one of the best zoos in the South, and is considered the number one attraction in the DFW metroplex. The Zoo currently houses over 5,000 animals. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s collections emphasize the science and history of Texas and the Southwest. The science collection contains thousands of specimens as well as native Texas and United States plants.

With the city’s many fine offerings, it’s easy to see why Fort Worth is the destination of choice for so many vacationers!
