Bon, Maarten, Dutch pianist and composer; b. Amsterdam, Aug. 20, 1933. He graduated from the Muzieklyceum in Amsterdam in 1954. He studied piano with T. Bruins and Spaanderman, and composition with Baaren, and then gave recitals with his wife, the violinist Jeannelotte Hertzberger. His compositions, often whimsical, include Caprichoso y Obstinato for Flute (1965); Disturbing the Peace, improvisation for 9 Players, more or less (1968–69); Let’s Go Out for a Drive (and Pollute the Air), improvisation for Trombone, 3 Pianists, and Conductor (1970–74); Free or Not for 21 Wind Players (1972); Sieben, jedenfalls sieben for Chamber Ensemble (1976); Display IV for 6 Pianos and Piano Tuner (1980; rev. 1982) and V for 12 Cellos (1983); Boréal for Violin and Percussion Ensemble (1981); Solo for Clarinet (1983–86); Canon a tre voci for 3 Cellos (1988–93); Song (without words) Nos. 1–5 for Various Instruments (1991–93); 5 Easy Pieces for String Quartet (1996); About Synchronicity for 4 Pianos (1996).
