A lavish two-part romantic drama in true Ross Hunter style about a young widow whose life is complicated by a hippie daughter, a rebellious teenage son, and an ill-starred love affair with a younger man—and then a former suitor comes back into the picture. The film, an adaptation of Helen Van Slyke’s 1976 novel, not only marked Donna Reed’s TV-movie debut in this, but also brought her back to television after a 12-year absence.
