(NBC, 10/30/1978, 120 mins). A bittersweet story of a teenage Jewish girl who falls in love with an escaped Nazi prisoner of war in a small Georgia town during World War II. Esther Rolle won the Emmy as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her performances in this film which also was nominated as the Outstanding Drama of the 1978-79 season. In addition, Jane Howard Hammerstein received an Emmy Award nomination for her teleplay, adapted from Bette Greene’s 1973 book.
