BONET, LISA (1967–). Actress, writer, director. She was born in San Francisco, and grew up in New York and Los Angeles. She attended Reseda High School and the Celluloid Actor’s Studio. She began acting in commercials at age 11, and landed her breakout role as Denise Huxtable in the hit sitcom The Cosby Show when she was 16. She was at one time married to musician Lenny Kravitz, and was active in his career, co writing songs for his first album, and directing the music video to his first hit song, “Let Love Rule.” She took a big gamble with her first film role which included her appearing stark naked in a violent sex scene. It was a major departure from her “Cosby Daughter” image. Her character left the show soon after to star as a student at a black college on the spin-off series A Different World , where she worked for only one season. Other notable film roles include Enemy of the State , 1998, and Biker Boyz , 2003.
