CHEADLE, DON (1964–). Actor. Born in Kansas City , Missouri , Cheadle graduated from East High School in Denver , Colorado . He earned his BA degree in Fine Arts from CalArts and began auditioning for stage, television, and film. He first gained notoriety for his role as Mouse in Devil in a Blue Dress , 1995, which won him a best supporting actor award from the Los Angeles Film Critics, and he received rave reviews for his portrayal of veteran performer Sammy Davis Jr. in The Rat Pack , 1998. With an eye for unique roles and opportunities not often available in Hollywood , Cheadle was instrumental in getting two powerful independent films made in 2005. These films were the African genocide based Hotel Rwanda , for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and the contemporary race-relations-based Crash .
