DUKE, BILL (1943–). Actor, producer, director. A native of Poughkeepsie, New York, Duke graduated from Boston University with a B. A. degree in 1964, and received an M. A. degree in 1968 from New York University. He began his career as a director of off-Broadway plays and won an Adelco Award for his direction of Unfinished Business in 1974. As an actor, he debuted in American Gigolo , 1979, and has worked both in front of and behind the camera ever since. Acting jobs include Predator , 1987; Commando , 1985; and Action Jackson , 1988. As a director, he has helmed A Rage In Harlem , 1991; Deep Cover , 1992; The Cemetery Club , 1992; and Hoodlum , 1997. He is a former Time/Warner endowed chair at Howard University’s Department of Radio, Television, and Film.
