HAMILTON, LISA GAY (1964–). Actress, director. She was born in Los Angeles, California, and began acting at an early age. She took private acting lessons in junior high school and attended summer drama camps. She graduated from New York University and received a master’s degree from Julliard. Her notable television roles include Dr. Laura Reed, 1996, in the daytime drama One Life to Live , and Rebecca Washington, 1997–2003, in the law series The Practice . Her major film work includes roles in Jackie Brown , 1997; Beloved , 1998; and The Sum of All Fears , 2002. Hamilton produced and directed the award-winning documentary, Beah: A Black Woman Speaks , 2003.
