KOTTO, YAPHET (1937–). Actor. Born in New York City, Kotto has a long and distinguished career in television and film. He made his film debut in 4 for Texas , 1963, and followed with a role in Nothing But a Man , 1964. He received worldwide attention as Secret Agent 007’s deadly foil in Live and Let Die , 1973. He was also featured in several blaxploitation films during the 1970s, including Across 110th Street , 1972; Truck Turner , 1974; and Friday Foster , 1975. Many mainstream roles followed in films like Blue Collar , 1978; Alien , 1979; and The Running Man , 1987. He made guest appearances on numerous television shows, including Homicide: Life on the Street .
